I am a sucker for chick flicks. Good ones, bad ones, doesn't matter. Everyone knows this. Despite my love of sports and poker and beer and blah blah blah, at the end of the day I am a horrible, walking cliche of a girl.
If you will examine the list of guilty pleasure movies that we just did at work (yes, we signed our names to these -- mistake?), you will see that almost all of mine follow a certain theme. I had to throw Beerfest and American Dreamz in there at the last minute just for some variety. And in fact I will admit to you, here and now, that at one point I even had Hope Floats on my list but took it off because I was too embarrassed. (I hasten to add that I don't really love that movie; I just can't stop watching it when it's on cable. I guess I must have a thing for Sandra Bullock. And also that scene where the little girl's face crumples into tears gets to me EVERY time.)
Anyway, in honor of the list and my outing myself to the world as a lover of bad romantic comedies, I present to you a little quiz. You know how in most romance movies, the two lovers have a quarrel or a misunderstanding or they think they hate each other, and then there's a climactic scene at the end where one (usually the man) makes a big, heartfelt speech to the other (the woman)? Well, these quotes are from those scenes, with a couple exceptions (though the exceptions are still in the same vein). See if you can guess which movies they're from.
Hints: They're not all romantic comedies, though they are romances; and some of them are reeeally bad, and for at least one of the quotes I removed the most famous line so it wouldn't be too easy, and nearly all of them I wrote down from memory, which is again something I probably shouldn't admit.
Here we go:
1. You said you couldn't be with someone who didn't believe in you. Well, I believed in you. I just didn't believe in me. I love you ... always.
2. I'd rather fight with you than make love with anyone else.
3. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.
4. Somewhere in the middle of all of this, I fell in love with you. I love you. I'm saying it out loud.
5. You look good wearing my future.*
6. Mostly I hate the way I don't hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.
7. You are the best thing I never knew I always wanted.
8. I'm just a girl standing in front a boy asking her to love him.
9. I love you. I love you. How many more times do you need me to say it?
10. You have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love, I love, I love you.
11. She's the voice inside my head, and I can't seem to drown her out. And I don't want to drown her out.
12. I miss you. I miss my wife.
13. But I do know the curves of your face. And I know every fleck of gold in your eyes. I know that the night at the park was the best time I've ever had.**
14. I was a better man with you as a woman than I ever was with a woman as a man.
15. And I will inhabit here, or you can inhabit with me in England.
*Not part of a speech
**Not said after a fight
p.s. 15th added. Thanks, Alexis!

Ok, I'm kind of embarrassed, but I think I got all but 2 although 2 are guesses:
1. Pretty In Pink
2. Wedding Date?
3. When Harry Met Sally
4. The Cutting Edge
5. Some Kind of Wonderful
6. 10 Things I Hate About You
7. ?
8. Notting Hill
9. Say Anything
10. Pride & Prejudice
11. Two Weeks Notice?
12. Jerry Maguire
13. ?
14. Tootsie
15. Love Actually (and not fair as the English was in subtitles).
That's 3 freaking Hugh Grant movies unless I missed 4 Weddings & a Funeral somewhere (but I would add for that "He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest" as that was the most romantic line for me although he stole it from W.H. Auden). And yes, I'm a total dork... but hey, the biggest cynics are the most disappointed romantics, right? =)
